Francisco Cornejo Soms, Organic Farmer, Speaking at #COP25 on Behalf of Farmers

Francisco Cornejo Soms speaking at COP25

Francisco Cornejo Soms, an organic farmer from Chile made a statement on behalf of the Farmers' Constituency in the High Level Segment of the Climate Conferenece COP25 in Madrid.

Statement by the Farmers' Constituency

My name is Francisco. I’m an organic sheep and walnut farmer from Chile and I’m speaking on behalf of the Farmers Constituency.

This is a global climate emergency and farmers are on the front line.

At COP25 we have seen the Koronivia work make progress. But when will this make a real difference to the lives and businesses of farmers across the world? We need action on the ground, taking into account the different circumstances and needs of our communities.

And despite the challenges we face, especially in developing countries and as smallholder farmers, we are ambitious - farmers want to be, and are, part of the solution to climate change.

But to be successful, farmers have to lead.

We have to be at the center of discussions and action.  We are clear about what we need: innovation; investment in science and extension; and an ambitious financing framework so that no farmer is left behind.
