A Message from IFOAM - Organics International at the Passing of Dr. Suh Chong-Hyuk

Dr Suh, Chong-hyuk, the first President of IFOAM Asia, passed away on April 22, 2020 after struggling with a chronic disease. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Dr. Suh has been instrumental in spreading the concept, practices and actions of the global organic movement. Based on his initiative the Organic World Congress was held in Korea, in 2011, when he served as the Executive Director-General for the Korea Organizing Committee. He reached out to people from other continents and cultures and therewith found a place in their hearts.

He continued to increase his global impact for the good of the organic sector and the well- being of our planet, after his retirement as Deputy Director of the Korea Rural Economic Institute, by assisting selflessly organic agriculture projects in other parts of the World.

We are obliged with wholehearted gratitude to all the deeds of Dr. Suh. He dedicated his life, experience and expertise to sustainability, and so to our common future. He will stay in our thoughts and memory as elder of the global organic movement. And his spirit lives with us in the actions and impact of IFOAM Asia and IFOAM – Organics International.
